"This is no tiptoe through the tulips" 5K Road Race 5K Walk Wednesday, May 5, 2010 Pella, IA The Tulip Time Klompen Classic consists of a 5K road race and a 5K walk through the streets of Pella. A short kids fun run is also included. The event occurs annually on the Wednesday evening before the beginning of the Tulip Festival in Pella. The Klompen Classic is the primary fundraiser for Crossroads of Pella. Crossroads is a local non-profit agency that provides many types of assistance to those in need, but free counseling is the trademark. Early Packet Pick Up & Registration Monday, May 3 from 4:30 - 7:00 pm Pella Community Center Room 306 712 Union Street Pella, Iowa 50219 Schedule of Events 4:30-6:45 PM Race Day Registration, Packet & Chip Pick Up for pre-registered walkers and runners. Registration and packet pick up takes place on the west side of the square in the large white hospitality tent (if you have not already taken advantage of the Early Pick Up on May 3). 6:00 PM Kid's Classic - FREE Fun Run for ages 10 and under. The kid's race starts 2 blocks west of the Pella square on Franklin Street. Race numbers, participation ribbons, juice and cookies will be provided at the finish. Registration for the Kid's Classic is not necessary. Show up at the start area and run when your age group is called. 6:45 PM Begin lining up for the 5K. The race starts at the corner of Broadway and Washington. Please allow runners to the front of the start line. A sign for "WALKERS" will be held up farther south on that block. 7:00 PM Race Start 8:00 PM Awards on Tulip Toren Stage Age group award winners, overall Klompen winners and overall Master's winners (over 40 age group) will be recognized as results are available. Door prizes will also be awarded at this time.     Entry Fee: $20.00 for those registering on or before May 4 . T-Shirts GUARANTEED for those registered by April 15. $25.00 for Race Day registrants. Those registering the day of the race will receive a t-shirt while quantities last. Kid's Classic is Free - If your child(ren) is/are 10 and under and would like a youth t-shirt, the shirt cost is a reduced $10.00. Lightweight Chips - A lightweight tag will need to be twist tied to your shoelace. Race Course: The 5K course leads you through the streets of Pella and by local historical sites and tulip beds. Awards: Overall Champions A commemorative hand painted wooden shoe will be given to the overall male and female 5K Champion. Overall winners also receive a certificate (with a value of up to $100.00) for a pair of ASICS running shoes from Sports Page Sporting Goods. Master's Division Champions Participants 40 and over will compete for a wooden shoe award which will be granted to the over 40 winner in both a male and female category. Male and female winners receive a certificate for a pair of New Balance running shoes from Brown's Shoe Fit in Pella. Medals First, second and third place medals will be awarded in each of the following age groups for both male and female participants.
